A Flying Start - a parent's
viewpoint
Is there any point at being good
at something if no one knows you are good at it?
An open letter to parents whose children
have either recently graduated or are about to graduate.
- Are you concerned that
your offspring, having worked hard to achieve
a good degree, lack the confidence to present
themselves in a positive manner to employers?
- Are they able to write an effective
résumé of their practical experiences
in the language an employer understands?
- Do they understand the techniques
that will help them to succeed in an interview?
- Would they be confident if they
were invited to an assessment centre?
- Would independent advice and suggestions
about securing a meaningful job be useful?
Getting the right job is not about
luck, it is like everything else in life, it is
about learning and understanding how the recruitment
process works and then applying the principles.
As many employers say, it is not the best qualified
person for the job who gets selected, but the person
who comes across the best.
In responding to calls from friends
and relatives frustrated at their graduate offsprings
lack of progress in searching out meaningful careers
we have developed this mentoring programme. We would
now like to offer it to parents who find themselves
in a similar situation.
One thing that we should make clear
is that we are not recruitment agents, therefore
we do not present details to potential employers
nor do we take a commission from any subsequent
employer. We operate on the basis of offering personal,
flexible and tailored support within the framework
outlined in the brochure which facilitates the career
search.
The individual can dip in and dip
out of this support as they require.
Experience has shown that each graduate requires
a different level of support so we custom build
the programme. Typically this will involve a number
of face to face discussions and support by e-mail
and telephone.
The cost of the programme is based
on the level of support required. Should you be
interested then please contact us to discuss your
individual requirements.
